History
Longshots Bar & Grill is located on Grand River, two blocks east of Inkster in Redford Twp. This address has many years of history dating back to the fifties when it started as the Driftwood. It catered to a hip younger crowd with a swingin’ piano bar.
Many local, famous acts brought their entertainment during the 60’s and 70’s. The Driftwood became a premier Rock and Roll bar with many famous acts like the Moody Blues, Bob Seagar, Amboy Dukes, Rationales, Frank Sinatra Jr., Mitch Ryder and many other Motown Stars that went on to become world known
The bar went through many changes and names in the 80s and 90’s. Your Moustache, Driftwood II, Eddie G’s, Kevin’s T.S. Martins and finally in January, 1995 Don Vargo opened Longshots.
Just like in the early days, Longshots has the appeal of hip people from days past to the new generation. Longshots’ has some of the best looking and friendly ladies to create a truly upscale feeling at “Blue Collar” prices. Everyday for lunch, Longshots Bikini Girls are here to serve you.

Don Vargo has always prided himself in preparing some of the finest food in the Detroit area through his many years of experience. Longshots prizes itself with its’ not so typical “bar and grill” menu. The food is far better than many of the high priced restaurants around.
Nightlife at Longshots is always a blast and weekends generate one of the coolest atmospheres for dance and music fans. The game room keeps ‘em coming back for more and Keno jackpots are drawn every 3 minutes.
Propitiator, Don Vargo has spent forty years perfecting the restaurant and bar scene in the Detroit area. In 1965, Don Vargo opened the Moby-Dick Lounge in Dearborn which featured Folk music. From 1970 to 1980 Don ran Vargo’s Supper Club on Six Mile Road in Livonia. Vargo featured Michigan’s Number One Wine Cellar and live entertainment for dining and dancing.
In 1980 he ran the Plymouth Rock Saloon sports bar featuring all draught beer. The Saloon went through 60 to 65 ½ barrels each week.
Vargo went downtown in 1983 with the Rivertown Dance Emporium and Eatery that became the Number One Martell Cognac Bar in America in 1984. It was an “Adults Only” Night Club with big screen entertainment.
He then opened the 1940’s Chop House on East Jefferson. It was Michigan’s first restaurant to feature 100% Certified Angus Beef. It was designed in Art Deco with two floors of dining and dancing.
Don then decided to make his way back to the west side. In 1995 he opened Longshots Bar & Grill. He brought his many years of experience with good food, good entertainment and his reputation with him to make Longshots a great place to be. Since opening Longshots, Vargo has been serving the best cuts of meat and fresh fish – the same as restaurants costing three or four times the price. Don has always had some of the hottest female wait staff since the doors swung open in that gray unassuming building east of Inkster heading down the Grand River! Perhaps that is what has made him one of Budweiser’s top distributors in Wayne County.
Vargo’s menu includes Soft Shell Crab, fresh Lamb Chops cut daily from the rack, hand cut Choice NY Strips, Filet Mignon, Rib Eye, Ahi Tuna with Wasabi & fresh shaved ginger and Colossal King Crab Legs. Fresh Veggies and Salads are served everyday.
As long time neighbor and friend, Vargo has done a stellar job with Longshots Bar & Grill. Kudos Don!
